Long distance dispersal of monk parakeets

چکیده

Invasive species threaten biodiversity all around the world and for this reason, identifying causes mitigating their effects is a priority in conservation biology. One of most important factors when dealing with invasive dispersal, because distribution dispersal distances among members population can greatly affect rate spread these populations. Long distance events have disproportionately large influence on kernel estimations, but restricted spatial sampling scales they are difficult to detect. Here we use an extensive database 3,114 monk parakeets ringed Barcelona city since 2002 as part control program across Catalonia where 3,460 birds been captured 2013. Our aim was describe long–distance movements parakeets. We recorded over 10 km total eight individuals. Long–distance dispersions were directions both males females involved. While some individuals moved first year, others delayed several years. Given that range expansion information be great utility modeling species.

History of nonnative Monk Parakeets in Mexico

Nonnative Monk Parakeets have been reported in increasing numbers across many cities in Mexico, and were formally classified as an invasive species in Mexico in late 2016. However, there has not been a large-scale attempt to determine how international pet trade and national and international governmental regulations have played a part in colonization, and when the species appeared in different...

Sociality and Reconciliation in Monk Parakeets (Myiopsitta monachus)

For animals living within socially complex groups, it is beneficial for all individuals to maintain group cohesion. Conflicts often arise in groups, which could potentially have high costs both to the subordinate and dominant members, and could lead to group instability. It has been shown numerous times that highly social group members participate in affiliative relationships with other group m...

Long-Distance Dispersal of Fungi.

Dispersal is a fundamental biological process, operating at multiple temporal and spatial scales. Despite an increasing understanding of fungal biodiversity, most research on fungal dispersal focuses on only a small fraction of species. Thus, any discussion of the dispersal dynamics of fungi as a whole is problematic. While abundant morphological and biogeographic data are available for hundred...

Long-distance dispersal of plants.

Long-distance dispersal (LDD) of plants poses challenges to research because it involves rare events driven by complex and highly stochastic processes. The current surge of renewed interest in LDD, motivated by growing recognition of its critical importance for natural populations and communities and for humanity, promises an improved, quantitatively derived understanding of LDD. To gain deep i...

Rapid, Long-Distance Dispersal by Pumice Rafting

Pumice is an extremely effective rafting agent that can dramatically increase the dispersal range of a variety of marine organisms and connect isolated shallow marine and coastal ecosystems. Here we report on a significant recent pumice rafting and long-distance dispersal event that occurred across the southwest Pacific following the 2006 explosive eruption of Home Reef Volcano in Tonga. We hav...
